The idea for stadtbekannt was born in 2013 in an unexpected place: at the hairdresser’s.
While getting his hair cut at his favorite salon, founder Alexander Rottels struck up a conversation with the owner. She described her problem to him: “The phone number for her salon was listed incorrectly on an online platform. Calls were no longer going to her, but to a competitor. Customers stayed away, sales declined—and above all, there was no way to correct this error herself.
What seemed like a minor detail had noticeable consequences. And that’s where the idea came in: if a single incorrect entry can cause so much damage, how many companies are struggling with similar problems every day without knowing it?
With his hair freshly cut, Alexander set out to help. Step by step, this concrete solution developed into an idea that grew bigger: companies need to be able to centrally control their digital information. That’s how stadtbekannt took shape.
What began as a way to help a single salon quickly revealed a structural problem: company data is scattered across countless locations on the internet—often uncontrolled, outdated, or contradictory. stadtbekannt was created with the aim of changing precisely that.
