Put yourself in the shoes of a local retailer. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, you have to close your business and are now worried about how you will be able to pay your next rent or even your employees. You need customers to keep your business alive.
But how can we really help the local traders who make our city so liveable? What can we do so that after the crisis we can once again visit our favorite boutique or the bookseller we’ve known for years?
We have an idea:
- Choose five of your favorite stores: For example, we chose a café, a clothing store, a florist, a butcher and our favorite pub.
- Also look for two stores that are more niche: A goldsmith or jeweler or your local tailor around the corner. They’re having just as hard a time at the moment!
- Just write recommendations for each store to your friends: we’re all in the same boat. Contact with friends makes #stayhome much more bearable anyway! Even more sustainable: Write reviews on Google. That helps companies immensely!
- Provide work: You and your friends can easily help local traders!
Here are three suggestions on how you can help quickly and easily:- Vouchers: You can simply have vouchers issued to you. Let’s be honest, sooner or later you’ll be shopping there again anyway! Now you are supporting the retailer in this difficult phase.
- Give us a call: Need something from the store right now? The vast majority of retailers will be happy to put your order together for you and make it ready for collection. You can pick it up on the way to the supermarket, but then get back home quickly!
- Have it delivered: Various places, especially restaurants, have recently started offering delivery. Why not simply have your favorite dish delivered at the weekend, when you would have gone out to eat anyway? The restaurateurs are happy! Keep your eyes open on Facebook, you’ll be amazed at how many restaurants already offer delivery.
- Kind words: Just write a few kind words to the dealers you trust and ask them how you can help them!
It’s actually really simple. The good thing is that the whole thing can also be combined with neighborhood help for at-risk patients and elderly people. Maybe you can get them a new book or fresh flowers as well as food? You won’t soon forget the smile on their face.
But always remember: distance is an expression of care. #staysafeandhome & #washyourhands
